I have always had an interest in poetry. Perhaps
my aunt, Keth Dickson influenced me in this area. One of her early poems
from 1946 was about me and is included here. There is a "readroom" .exe
file on this site that may be downloaded that contains some of her poetry.
My Own Mistakes. Father read extensively to his children from collections
of prose and poetry (it seems between the ages of 2 to about 12).
I wrote poems of my own as a young person in high school from the late 1950s into the mid 1960s when our country was going through such difficult social times. I remember doing a research paper about nursery rhymes for an English class at that time. Between 1970 and 1988 I can not remember writing any poetry. While in China, I started writing again. In the 1990s I taught American and English Literature in high school (9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades). I spent a great deal of time working with my Chinese step-daughter on high school homework during that time and as I worked with her I started using poetry in my teaching efforts with ESL students. There is a "readroom" .zip file on this site that may be downloaded that contains some of the poetry from my students. RR-ESL.ZIP Poetry is such a personal thing that I doubt that anything here will be of interest except to some of my relatives and students. A number of these poems are listed in the menu to the right.
